hey,
i just bought a sankyo LXL and haven't used it yet. I was wondering what the quality is like for super 8mm cameras. Is it like miniDV cameras? hi 8 cameras? super vhs? or like none of these.
thanks, chris

Resolution for S8 cameras:
Depending upon quality of the camera and the lens, S8 can manage between 500 and 800 lines of resolution.
Also, film has much better control over contrast than analog and digital video.
If you want more info, please do a search in the archives. This topic has been covered extensively in the past.
Good luck.

The short answer is;
Super 8 film, skillfully shot, with good equipment, looks better than video.
If poorly shot, it looks really bad, as does anything.
I say this because, many people curious about this format grab a cheap camera, shoot a couple rolls, not knowing how to shoot film correctly, then when the results look terrible, they blame it on the format.
So like he said, go through the archives on this site; you could, and should, spend hours and hours reading past posts, and you will get a decent education of at least where to start.
